2nd Annual KANZI Fest Coming to Pearland
The Pearland community celebrates the culture, arts, and heritage of people of African descent.
PEARLAND, TX, August 5, 2019 — Kemetyu Global Economic Development Corporation (KGEDC), a Texas nonprofit corporation, is proud to announce the 2nd Annual KANZI Fest to be held at Southdown Park, in Pearland, TX.
KANZI Fest will bring live music, dancers, drummers, authors, Trap Yoga, African martial arts, folklore, arts and crafts, DJs, food, products, services and much more to celebrate the diversity of art, culture and entertainment throughout the African Diaspora.
KANZI Fest will run from Friday, September 27th to Saturday, September 28, 2019. Tickets are available via www.kanzifest.com.
KANZI Fest is filling a void in Pearland’s arts and culture scene, while creating an atmosphere that brings all people together to learn about the African Diaspora. KANZI will kick off with the Akwaaba Networking Mixer at the Westside Events Center on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person and includes Hors D’oeurves and music provided by DJ Silent Killa. Following at 9:00 p.m. on the Southdown Park Amphitheater lawn
(attendees will need to bring their lawn chairs and/or blankets) will be the Movie Under The Stars: Everything But A Man by filmmaker, Nnegest Likke.
Saturday’s events will begin with West African Dance Exercise by Intuitive African Drum and Dance at 12:00 p.m. Following will be Trap Yoga with @BoldnFit at 1:30 p.m. on the lawn.
Concerts will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Amphitheater. This year’s festival boasts MYOA as the headliner. Nigerian artist Myoa (pictured) “ oozes passion, drive and voice for the music craft and art. She wittily describes her sound as “SoPoJa” an acronym she derived from “Soul Pop Jazz” which embodies the type of music.”
Bringing the beautiful and energetic sounds of the Afro-Latin Diaspora, Los Hijos Del Son will take KANZI Fest attendees through a musical journey with Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Bolero. And Demola is a dynamic artist that will entertain with music styles such as Afrobeats, Reggae, Dancehall, and violin covers…bringing a Nigerian and Caribbean vibe.
The Samy Jo Band will remind us of the African American roots of Country, Blues, and Rock & Roll. BLAZE X BLACK will bring alternative sounds. DJ Thrill Seekah will keep the vibe going in between sets.
KANZI Fest is a family event that will have Wakandaland for the children! Little ones, ages 3-8, will join Princess Shuri for her “Princess Shuri Tea Party.” Sehah Youth & Fitness will lead the children in African Martial Arts demonstrations. Other Wakandaland activities includes arts & crafts, jewelry making, face painting, history games, and more!
All proceeds will benefit this and other initiatives of Kemetyu Global Economic Development Corporation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
This project is supported by a City of Pearland Cultural Arts Grant program from the City of Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau.
